“CHARACTERICS OF A REAL CHURCH FAN

New Life Bible Church

Allen McLauchlin, Th.D.,  Pastor

September 15, 2013

Sport Scriptures:

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1

The city will be filled with boys and girls playing games in its streets. Zechariah 8:5

“SIGNS THAT YOU ARE A SERIOUS FAN OF GOD’S CHURCH”

1. You  arrive early for the opening song. (opening kick off)

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”  Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem. Psalm 122:1,2

2.  You don’t mind staying late, savoring the victory in Jesus.

On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. Acts 20:7

3.  You are not deterred by the weather in making your way to church.

I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. 2 Corinthians 11:27

4.  You want the best seat in the church.  (arena or stadium)

One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. John 13:23

5.  You seldom miss church service.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes (victory parties) and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people( tailgating). Acts 2:46,47

6.     You don’t complain about giving to the church, tithes or offerings, giving as you have been blessed.

Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. Malachi 3:8

I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us. 2 Corinthians 8:3-5

7.  You are never upset over paying the preacher, because he is worth it to you.

The pastors who rule well are worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” that pastor deserves to be paid twice as much . 1 Timothy 5:17,18

Pay them as if you were paying God. 3 John 6

8. You read the Bible regularly and memorize Scripture.

I have hidden your word in my heart,  with my lips I recite your Word, I rejoice in following your Word as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your word and consider your ways. I delight in your Word; I will not neglect your Word. Psalm 119:11-16

9. You express your passions for the Lord without feeling ashamed.

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and keyboard, praise him with drums and dancing, praise him with the strings and organ., Psalm 150:1-4
