"HOW TO DISCOVER THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD”

New Life Bible Church

January 11, 2015

Allen McLauchlin, Pastor

A family friendly, never alone, purpose driven church

OUR GOAL: Those beside path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts,  Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root, in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, never mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop, they discover God. Luke 8:12-15 (Experiencing His awesomeness and having a more intimate fellowship).

1. By TUNING our ears to hear to the  WORD more clearly.

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Proverbs 2:2

We must pay the most careful attention, so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2:1

So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 1 Samuel 3:9

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. Then a voice said to me, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:11-13

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9

Before daybreak ,early, Jesus got up and went to an isolated place to pray. Mark  1:35

Be still, and know that I am God! Psalm 46:10

2. Corral  and replace your thinking so not to dilute your Godly THOUGHTS

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on Godly thoughts. Proverbs 2:2

The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. Genesis 6:5

0ut of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality,  murder, adultery, greed, anger,  lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. Mark 7:21,22

We replace thoughts  that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8

Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. Deuteronomy  6:7-9

3. Become EMOTIONALLY invested in your quest for knowledge .

Cry out for insight, and plead for understanding.

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. 1 Peter 2:2

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.  My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I go and meet Him ? Psalm 103:1; Psalm 42:2

At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”  Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last. Matthew 27:46;  Luke 23:46

4. By realizing that knowing  God is PRICELESS

Search for wisdom as you would silver; seek like hidden treasures. Proverbs 2:4

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, for wisdom is more profitable than silver, or gold, nothing you desire can compare with her. Proverbs 3:13-15

But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!. Acts 3:6

Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life, priceless. John 6:68

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? Mark 8:36,37
