Allen McLauchlin, Pastor

Immediately the Spirit impelled Him to go out into the wilderness. And He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels were ministering to Him. Mark 1:12,13

The Wilderness: The part of life’s journey that is plagued with temptations, hurts, sicknesses, disappointments, failures, and a cadre of satanic attacks.

1. To teach us to be dependable on THE WORD to fight our battles .

Lead me in the right path, out of this wilderness, O Lord, or my enemies will conquer me. Make your way plain for me to follow. Psalm 5:8

The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire. This allowed them to travel by day or by night. Exodus 13:21

The battle is not yours but God's.  You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, just stand allow God to lead you and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf. 2 Chronicles 20:15-17

Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head., and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! The Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear, but by His WORD. This is the Lord’s battle, and HE will give you to us!. 1 Samuel 17:46-47

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Hebrews 4:12,13

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8:8

2.  So others, in my WORLD will come to know Him as I know Him.

Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail (gone into the wilderness).  So when you have come out and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers. Luke 22:31,32

Zacchaeus (was lost in the wilderness and up a tree) stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!” Luke 19:8

I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and he will endure forever.” Daniel 6:26,27

You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position you might know Him as I do. Genesis 50:20

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

3.  To MOTIVATE me to do His will.

Nebuchadnezzar,  will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven years will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the God rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.. He ate grass like a cow, and he was drenched with the dew of heaven. He lived this way until his hair was as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails were like birds’ claws. “After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. Then my sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever. Daniel 4:32-34.

This time Jonah obeyed the Lord’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all. However, Jonah walked through the city in one day, shouting,  “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed!” Jonah 3:3,4

When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before! Job 42:10

These trials will show that your faith is genuine.  So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will motivate us to bring much praise and glory and honor to
God.
1 Peter 1:7

4. It is God’s route to the Promise Land that leads to our PROSPERITY .

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. .” So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Exodus 13:17,18

And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. Numbers 14:8

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. James 1:2-3
