SOCRATES: “The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they alone knew everything and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for girls, they are forward, immodest and unwomanly in speech, behavior and dress." PLATO: “What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" (Hesiod, 8th century BC). “I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient”.

1. By associating with individuals who add value to your life .

Calling the Twelve to Him, He began to send them out TWO BY TWO __________ and gave them authority over impure spirits. Mark 6:7

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

Don’t team up with unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 2 Corinthians 6:14,15

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33

2.  By PRESENTING yourself  as one who has confidence.

This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:8

Don’t be afraid,  I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, I am your God. I will  strengthen and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10

We are confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:8

3. By being TEACHABLE

These were His instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. Mark 6:8,9

Whoever loves instructions loves knowledge, but whoever refuses instructions is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

In the same way, you younger men must accept the teachings of the elders.  “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5

Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more. Proverbs 9:9

The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him. Acts 8:31

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6

4.  By having a very RESPECTABLE spirit .

“Wherever you go,” He said, “stay in the same house until you leave town. But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave indicating you have done your best .”Mark 6:10,11

Show respect to the aged; honor the presence of an elder; fear your God. Leviticus 19:31.

Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters. 1 Timothy 5:1,2

So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. Romans 13:2

“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

Respect your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23:22
